Waterlevels: The river is glacier fed, although there seems to be little level change throughout the day. We encountered ideal levels in late august, by mid-September it was too low.

Accessibility: Good quality road runs close to the river. Easily scouted.

Upper Alemedin

Continuous and steep read and run grade 4 including gorge sections.

Length: 5km (ish)

Grade: IV

Put in/Get out: Put-in at the end of the road that runs up beside the river. It is also to walk up with the boats on the path on river right. We did this for about a km before getting on, and it comes highly recommended. I would be interested to hear what (if anything) if higher up. We got out at the iron bridge which has a restaurant on it.

Description: Excellent continuous grade 4. Close to Bishkek makes it an ideal warm-up run.

Last Paddled: 24-Aug-2005.

Middle Alemedin

Another gorge followed by continuous grade III.

Length: 3km

Grade: III/IV

Put in/Get out: Put-in at the iron bridge (avec restaurant thingy) and paddle down to another road bridge.

Description: We didn't paddle this but it looked entertaining.

Last Paddled: Scouted only.

Lower Alemedin

Continuous grade III/IV fun!

Length: 6km

Grade: III/IV

Put in/Get out: Put-in at the road bridge used as a take-out for the middle section, and paddle down into the road bridge in the town.

Description: Continuous III/IV to start before easing into braided grade II for a short period. The crux grade IV rapid in a small gorge follows. After this, the gradient eases, but watch out for low power lines hanging across the river as you enter the town.

Last Paddled: 22-Aug-2005.
